Michelle Obama just debuted her new podcast IMO (In My Opinion) with her co-host and older brother, Craig Robinson. The First Lady’s second act has been a masterclass in living life unbothered. After eight years as First Lady, she could have jumped into politics or another a high-profile leadership role. Instead, she’s been out here minding her business, dropping bestselling books, and most importantly—not showing at the last inauguration (a decision I fully support). Now, we get to hear her insights weekly!

Michelle and Craig Robinson’s Family Bond
The first episode debuted on March 12, 2025, and from the jump, Michelle and Craig make it clear: they’re not experts. The brother-sister dup are here to share their opinions on life. Their sibling bond is the heart of the show, and it feels like listening to two family members who genuinely love each other, even if they’ve had their moments.
As Michelle puts it, they were “physically close” growing up. sharing a room until Craig went to high school. And even though she’s now one of the most recognizable women in the world, she’s still just “Miche” to him.
That familiarity is what makes In My Opinion special. It’s filled with intimate moments that give us real insight into their relationship, like Craig explaining why he didn’t tell Michelle about his divorce right away:
“The reason I didn’t tell my sister about it or my mom or anybody close to me… was because I know my sister, and I said, if I tell her about this, she’s never going to get over it.”

Then there’s their classic sibling banter, like when Michelle recalls always being “Craig Robinson’s little sister” growing up, and now? The tables have turned.
“I’m really enjoying the payback of Craig Robinson now being Michelle Obama’s brother.”
And of course, there’s the hilarious reality of what it means to have the Secret Service at your disposal. When Craig brings up the electric truck he’s driving in LA, he teases Michelle for not driving. She insists she has been driving more, to which Craig immediately asks:
“How’s the Secret Service letting you drive?”
Michelle, without missing a beat: “Well, it’s a secret.”
But one of the funniest stories so far is when she picked up Craig’s kids from school —motorcade and all. She pulled into the pickup line, four SUVs deep, as her nephews tried to play it cool. Imagine having Michelle Obama as your auntie!
IMO Podcast
Beyond their own stories, the IMO podcast will bring on a rotating lineup of guests, with the first being Issa Rae. They start off discussing friendships—particularly friendship breakups—which is a topic everybody can relate to. And if that first episode is any indication, future guests like Elaine Welteroth, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Gabrielle Union will only add to the mix of humor, honesty, and thoughtful conversation.
This podcast feels like the perfect next step for Michelle Obama. She’s already shown us her warmth, wisdom, and ability to connect with people through Becoming (2018) and its follow-up The Light We Carry (2022). Now, she’s letting us in on more of the personal, unfiltered conversations we wish we could have with our own families.
I, for one, am ready to be inspired, educated, and entertained.
